Vegetables - collage
This activity is inspired by a picture in a gardening magazine. I have collected pieces of fabric, tissue paper and wool in colours resembling the ones on the picture. In order to make it an open ended activity I have attached the picture to the tray but it is not a teacher made example to copy. As an instruction encouraging the children to use the activity I would say: 'Would you like to make a vegetable collage'. That would have been followed by a casual discussion about their experience of vegetables in general (growing, harvesting or eating).
Mixing Colours
This activity is 'a must have' in each Montessori classroom. It is very easy to set up, but needs to be presented, otherwise children will use it as a pouring activity. Children are expected to have experience of opening and closing jars and using a pipette. The sponge is to be used to dry the bowls, tray and to dab a pipette every time before inserting it into the jar with a new colour.
